In this case, it was certainly the egg that inspired this knitted chicken, as it holds a Cadbury's Creme egg inside its tummy!
I found this on Anjie Davison's blog, and since then I have altered it slightly, as chocolate eggs have 'grown' smaller, but the main idea is hers.
I am happy to pass on my version of the pattern if anyone is interested. It uses DK yarn, 3.75 needles and is quick and easy to knit up. My daughter has 2 or 3 of these egg 'cosies' and uses them on her real eggs, which she keeps in a chicken-patterned bowl in the kitchen. The chocolate ones were eaten years ago!

Ooh these little chickens are just sooooo darn cute. even sweeter with a creme egg in their tummy.
I wish some of my girls would lay lovely chocolate creme eggs. Wouldn't be much good for an omelette but just as delish.
