Trick or Treat?

Anyone else had anything odd occur for Halloween? Not exactly frightening, but makes you wonder what it might be leading to?

A couple of days ago I had an email from Pay Pal saying a payment of $6 had made to my account.  It supposedly came from a Chinese-sounding name at a US university email address, from someone I have never heard of.  May I say, I do not have a washcloth for sale.  I DO have a pattern for a washcloth on Ravelry - available ABSOLUTELY FREE.  If a pattern on Ravelry is free, there is no way anyone could pay for it by accident.  Also, I have had no other notification from any of those sales sites, such as Etsy or Folksy or Da Wanda, where I sometimes sell my crafts.

It's all very odd.  I thought of simply refunding the payment, but this has to be done through PayPal and would give the 'buyer' some information about my account.  Very little, of course, and theoretically not information of any use to him or her.

It's a sad state of affairs that I have to be so careful and worry about crooks who may wish to empty my bank account of its meagre contents, but it seems to be a fact of life today.  Robber Barons still roam, but it's the Internet now!

Anyway, I've reported it to PayPal's fraud section and they are investigating, which is nice to know.

I have had e-mails telling me I have received refunds of money and so on but usually for things I haven't paid into I just delete them all - maybe one day I will delete one which is really offering me some money but I rather doubt it!! Have a happy halloween - at least you have a jour ferrie tomorrow!

I think you 've taken the right action. Sadly 'distrust' often has to be our watchword where finance is concerned.
Strangely we haven't had a single trick or treater(not that I'm complaining!)

G'day Penny. Yes, I agree. You have done the right thing. There are so many clever people out there who know how to scam through the internet etc, it's not worth taking the chance. Take care. Liz...

Maybe he knows that nice Nigerian prince who is having problems getting his money out of the country. He's always asking me to help out.

Oh and of course there's my super duper lottery win that I have to send my processing fee before I receive it ;)
