St Junien les Combes Christmas Market

Not a good day.

I had a feeling it wouldn't be.  The other stall holders were lovely but the buying public just didn't come.

Sue helped me man the stall...

...which was great, because otherwise I might just have slit my wrists...

You can see how many visitors we had...

...all but two of these are stallholders.

In this picture, below, there are actually THREE 'buyers'..

I just covered the cost of the stall (€10) but my fuel money?  No.

Anyway it wasn't such a bad day, Sue and I had a good chat and everyone was very friendly. As usual, the goods that sold were edible - cakes and flavoured salt.

So I'm not going to do this any more.  Well - not in France, anyway.  My stuff sells in England so I'll only do craft markets there.  At least the proceeds there pay for my travel over!

Join the club Penny. It's so soul destroying isn't it when you put so much effort into it all? Better luck next time as they say. :-)
Hugs,
A x

It's a bit like that here too. A friend did a car boot stall and said there were so few buyers, and the ones that did turn up didnt want to spend much.
Sorry you had a bad day. Your stall looked very inviting though.

How sad for you. There was an advents market in the little town we have our store. So it was open for three days. We did very well. :-)
Do you have an explanation why the people did not come? The weather maybe? The economy? Don't the French like hand crafts? Anyway, nice to hear you had a good time nevertheless. Regula

I feel for you after all that hard work. Usually, people come and look and chat but perhaps don't buy - sign of the times sometimes - but if no one came perhaps the event wasn't advertised very well ... if any consolation, you stall looks lovely.

Your stall did look great. I don't think it was advertised particularly well. When I got into the village (which I know well) I wasn't even sure if it was on as there were no sign pointing the way and you couldn't see the lights on in the Salle de Fetes. Driving through the village youwouldn't have know anything was on at all. Such a shame for everyone who had made such an effort. :-(

Hello Penny
What a let down! I'm sorry to hear you didn't do so well just have to think that at your next market you'll do super well to make up.
I thought the French were very much into crafts and your stall did look very nice with plenty there.

keep well

Amanda :-)

I understand your disappointment. I went to help a friend at a hand made fair here in Nanango. She also does knitted items. To cut a long story short. She paid $20 for the stall sold one item and wont be back. I think there were about 20 people all day.

G'day Penny. How disappointing for you. Your stall really did look lovely. I have seen the same thing happen at a couple of craft markets here. People are just so unpredictable. I have a good friend who makes and sells her own skin care range and some of the most beautiful soaps I have seen, but at some markets she struggles to sell just a couple of items. Hang in there Penny. Take care. Liz...
