The Wedding at La Terrasse

Ah, Nostalgia...  How we love to look back on times gone by and think they are so much more romantic than today!  Well, at least, I sometimes do.

And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, and so much talk of love in the air, I was delighted to find this old wedding photo at the Hope Charity Shop in Bussiere Poitivine yesterday...

Old Wedding Photo 2

Presumably this wedding group had their reception at the Grand Restaurant de la Terrasse - which still exists today, in the 17th Arrondissement of Paris...

La Terrasse

Next time I go to Paris I'm definitely going to have a coffee or even a meal there.

I did some research and found a picture of this clock which, presumably, is inside the restaurant...

La Terrasse - clock

You can see the date of 1885 on the clock face - which I think may have been the date that the restaurant opened.

It would be lovely to have more details of the photo, but I doubt that will happen, though I wonder how it came to be donated to a Charity shop in the rural Limousin area of France, almost 400 Kilometres from Paris!

If the photo could only talk and tell it's story, it would be fascinating.

Isn't that lovely! I wonder if the descendents of the bridal party perhaps live in your area?
You never know, you might find out more....have you taken the photo out of the frame? There might be some information on the back of the photo.
Hugs Sharon x

I love old photos and I don't know how people can part with them. It's a beautiful photo and such a find.

That is so cool! And I find it interesting to think that the restaurant is still in business--they go in and out of business mighty quick sometimes. I love old photos and always wonder about the people, what their lives were like, where did they live. It's sort of a melancholy thing, similar to living in a very old home.
