Cutting Down

Did I mention that I am on a diet?  Ever since I found I could barely get my thighs in my trousers.  I don't have any weighing scales so I don't know how much weight I've lost, but I CAN get into those trousers reasonably easily now and this brown top that I'm wearing no longer gapes at all the buttons!

Me 12 Aug 2013

They say the camera never lies, so I know I've still got to keep on with the diet if I want to lose that spare tyre round my middle (Moussaka apart!).

I'm hoping to try a weight-loss shake - anyone out there tried them?  It's just that I fear they will taste horrible...  I'm investigating a firm called Boot Camp in a Bottle and I've asked for a sample so I can make sure it tastes OK.

Postage Charges

Boot Camp etc is yet another firm that offers free UK delivery but charges a fortune for delivery to France.  I thought we were in the Common Market (or European Community as it is now called) with free trade and all that.  Not free postage, obviously! I imagine that the firm has an arrangement with the Royal Mail or a courier for delivery in England, but what I want to know is why they can't at least take that cost off the postage to France?????

The product itself costs £39.99 (a month's supply, I think) but the postage to France is £14.50,  almost half the cost of the actual product, putting the total cost up to a whopping £54.49!!!!

I find this happens frequently and some firms refuse to send to France AT ALL.  Sometimes I feel as if I am in Outer Mongolia - or worse - Outer Space...

But I must put in a good word for the firm that I buy my printer ink from - they send me out the ink cartridges absolutely FREE of postage and as quick as you like.  If you want to try them - they are called Ink Worldwide.  Just ask for Dave and tell him Penny sent you...

Those diet shakes will reduce weight but not for long time. But then that's true with any kind of weight loss regime; if not maintained, it strikes back in double. I have not tried shakes but one of my relatives tried. I had earlier joined a well known slimming centre where I lost 5 kg and then gained 10 kgs when I left the course in the middle. Even for diet, I believe, the one which we can continue life long shoud be the right one. Anything that is done for only few months or few years creates reverse effect when we change to old routine (diet or exercise). Maintaining is very difficult.

I am trying the two days a week fasting diet.On two days you only eat 500 calories. The other five days you eat what you want.It has worked for friends of mine.My trouble is I like my food and wine too much!Good luck.

I have the same problem with the wine! I tried cutting it out once, for the calories, but I didn't lose any weight, so I've decided to keep the wine and cut down on everything else. I don't think the two day fasting would work for me, if I really eat hardly anything, say for most of a day, then I am absolutely STARVING and have to have a 'proper' meal. That's why I want to try the shakes, so I don't feel hungry...

Looking good Penny, looking very good!!
And I know exactly what you mean on postage, it's the same to Spain...if they'll even post here. Some sellers will say "oh I don't post to Spain because I've heard it's not reliable...." and it makes me cross because they've probably no experience of it, just 'heard' it somewhere...and we all know what Chinese whispers are like!
Good luck with your shakes though!

penny, I think you look perfectly fine !are you thinking of the diet where you just have shakes and literally NO food for 6 months ?if so it does work well, ive got a friend that's done it twice with amazing results BUT as soon as she started eating any food again the weight went back on, im gutted as I lost 2 stone last year due to stress and now its all back on, ive had no chocolate for 2 months and haven't lost a pound, I didn't even get a chance to wear any of the summer clothes I bought for cheap in the winter as I cant get into any of them....all the best for your diet but not sure about the shakes !! xxxxx

2 things I can recommend - The Harcombe Diet by Zoe Harcombe, I bought the book Stop counting calories and start losing weight and the recipe book (kindle editions from amazon for my pc so no postage!!) it's a really interesting book and I started following that in January. I also started running a year ago following the Couch to 5k in 9 weeks. Between those 2 things I've kept my weight off.

I've started to count calories in a bid to lose some weight. Middle age spread has now spread out a bit too much for my liking.

I'm also starting a fitness regime. It's killing me but it'll be so worth it in the end.
