Not-So-Simple Baby Socks

If you read this blog regularly, you'll know that I'm knitting my Simple Baby Socks on circular needles at present.  The socks are easy enough, but I'm finding it a bit tricky to get a matching or almost-matching pair from the yarns I am using.

I'm currently knitting a pair for a friend who's recently had a baby girl, and I'm using DROPS Delight yarn.  Now I have used this yarn before for socks, although it's a bit hairy and tends to split a bit, so not easy to work with. However, it is a lovely mix and for these latest socks the colourway I've chosen is the inventively-named 05.  This is what it looks like in the ball...

and this is what the first sock looks like...

In order to get a second sock that even remotely resembled the first I wound off the rest of the ball with no luck, then started a second ball and wound about a third of that off before I found a match!

So I would not recommend using this yarn although its composition (75% Superwash wool, 25% Polyamide) is perfect for socks.  Unless, of course, you like your socks completely un-matching!

I think you should definitely start a new trend for non matching socks Penny....my son has been doing it for years!!!
They're very cute and so soft and warm looking but it must be a bit of a pain trying to get a matching pair without wasting so much wool.

I have to admire your persistence and care with the socks.

Hi Mise
Well either I have to be patient or just throw the first sock away! :-)
