Spring in the Air

It must be getting warmer 'cos:

• I've only just lit the wood burner and it's half-past 4
• It keeps on raining (a sure sign)
• The grass is growing
• Little bulbs are popping into flower everywhere
• The honeysuckle I planted last year is covered in fat buds

I just hope there's no more snow on the way!

Onions or Garlic?

Just as last year, I have either white onions or garlic shooting up everywhere, through what obviously was a vegetable patch in years gone by, but I now optimistically call my lawn. Last year I left them for a long time, but eventually got fed up and mowed them with the grass. Maybe I'll dig some up this year and move them into a bed and see what they develop into...


Blue is the Colour

Everything that's showing colour in the garden is blue... or purple... Little irises popping up everywhere...

...even on the compost heap!

And a tiny little scilla with a preposterously long name...

... Scilla mischtschenkoana ‘Tubergeniana

I'd like some snowdrops but you hardly ever see them out here, so everything that's out now is blue!

Botanic Hats

Did I ever show you the Botanic Hat I made in blue? I used a Turkish yarn, from Yarn Paradise, in 100% wool. It was very thick and thin and hard to knit with and took me much longer than the hat does normally. The colours were lovely, but the hat is not really reversible as the thick and thin -ness of the yarn seemed to give it a weird quilted look on what I would call the inside.

A pretty colour, but this pattern needs a smooth yarn, I think.
