One Metre Potager...

I am feeble - it is official.  I went out this afternoon to dig over the potager.  It is full of stones - some big enough to build a wall - and broken tiles, bricks, bits of glass and so on.  Also, the rotavator did NOT reduce the soil to a fine tilth... it just left big clumps of earth with grassy tussocks.  This is what I discovered yesterday, when I laughingly thought I would just rake it all over and get out any odd bits of stone left in.  No way.  Today I had to dig deeply with a fork, lever out the big rubbish, throw the tussocks to one side and put the smaller bits of glass, broken plate etc. in a bucket to empty later. After one hour and and aching back, this is what I achieved...

One metre...

Still, Rome wasn't built in a day...

Note to self - got to get some slaves...

That looks like very hard work, slaves would be welcome, I'm sure!

Watch your back! Take it steady.
Yes, slaves would indeed be a good idea, could do with some here!

Hi Carol

Not sure why you can't see the photo... seems OK this end. Have you had this problem with any other blog?
Anyone else not see the photo?

Hi Penny, it is there now, must just not have loaded for me earlier.
Your soil looks better than ours which is heavy clay, have fed it all sorts over the years but it just absorbs it.

G'day Penny. Many thanks for your birthday wishes. I know all about digging soil. Take heart, you will get it finished. Take care of your back though, I have learned the hard way. Look forward to seeing what you turn it into at some stage. Take care. Liz...
