Walking For Fun

I never thought I would become one of those hearty 'I love walking...' people and, sure enough, I haven't.  But I am trying to walk every day simply because my life is very sedentary, consisting, as it does, of mainly sitting and knitting or crocheting.  This is not good.  I have put on weight and most of my clothes are tight on me and I feel I must do something about it.

So, for the moment, I am doing two things.  Limiting my red wine intake to nothing or a small glass a day (which is not that enjoyable) and going for a walk (which is more enjoyable than I thought it would be).

Today I arranged with my friend Sue to go for a walk in Montrol Senard, a small village not too far from where I live.  There are 3 signposted walks around the environs of the village and we chose (of course) the shortest one.  According to the leaflet the whole route should take just over an hour.  In 3/4 of that time we were back in the village, having a coffee while I tended my blisters.  Yes, I have done very little walking in my walking boots and I was not wearing thick enough socks! Incidentally, we did considerably less than half the route!

But it was an enjoyable walk and the scenery was beautiful, like this little lake...

The weather was glorious - the temperature about 20° - which is amazing considering we are in the middle of November!

While my feet recover I'll stick to small walks around my hamlet that don't need proper boots!

G'day Penny. Good on you for getting out there and going for a walk. It looks like a lovely area. I have been walking for 12 months or more now and there are still days when I just can't be bothered. But once I get moving I enjoy it. Take care. Liz...x

Remember the area - it's beautiful. I am sure you will grow to love walking in the countryside but you do need comfortable footwear or you can't concentrate on the scenery! I bought my boots years ago in the Lake District and never had a moment's bother with them in fact once I have them on I don't want to take them off which considering the difficulty I have in finding normal shoes to fit is a miracle!

Walking is good! Get your feet used to it, and wrap up warm for when it gets frosty. I bet that countryside will look amazing then too.
