9th September

Had a great day yesterday. I went up the Gartempe valley with Pat and Edward, starting at Montmorillon. The weather was good, the scenery spectacular.
This topiary bush is outside the church at Montmorillon. I guess they made a stand in the middle of the bush for the cupola.

We had planned to go out on Sunday, but changed it to Saturday so that we could find shops open etc. We had coffee in Montmorillon and then lunch in a little restaurant alongside the road as we were coming in to Angles-sur-L'Anglin. Pat remembered an embroidery shop in Angles, which we found. Actually it was more of a sale of work - they do a type of drawn-thread embroidery called Jours d'Angles - all kinds of items but very expensive. We also saw a craft shop a bit further up the road and an exhibition in the loft over it. Absolutely gorgeous work.

We managed to find a few brocante shops on the way and I bought a wardrobe with shelves in - it's being delivered on Tuesday.

We came back to Bellac about 7 pm and had dinner in the Cafe Ponte de la Pierre down by the river.
