Locust (noun) - ləʊ.kəst

Bigger than a VERY BIG grasshopper but smaller than that thing they found in Quatermass and the Pit (broadcast on radio in the late 50s or early 60s)...
...and sometimes found in your bedroom at 4am!  This is a picture I took later...

Locust

The pink basket was the only thing I could find in a hurry that would confine him while I got a bit of sleep without killing him, so I put it over him (upside-down) and put a weight on top so he couldn't jump and knock the basket over.  It worked - he was silent for the rest of the night morning and right as rain when I released him - as you can see.
Maybe I should have killed him - apparently they're right little pests, and very tasty...

...they love 'em in Beijing...

...but I'm a Pescetarian (apparently that's the correct word for an almost-vegetarian who eats fish) and I don't like killing things that could be my old granny...

...so I took him outside and released him.  He sat on the edge of the basket obligingly while I took a photo and then spread his wings and took off like a little helicopter, going far away into the sky.
