Cushioned Against the Heat

It's still hot today - 35°.  I'm waiting for some shetland yarn to arrive from Jamieson and Smith so I can start on a couple of hats for Christmas presents.  I want to make this...

...and this...

...though I think that right now might not be the right weather to start knitting a complicated pattern in pure wool...

I'm also planning to join in a workshop run by Deborah of Perfect Spinning and Knitting, to make a tea cosy also designed by Kate Davies.  The workshop is part of Strathearn Wool Week, but she is encouraging blog readers to join in as 'virtual' participants, which is what I want to do.

The tea cosy uses a variety of techniques, including steeking, which is new to me, so I will no doubt be emailing Deborah on a regular basis for advice!

G'day Penny. Those hats look fabulous. I love the one with the sheep on it, how gorgeous. The tea cosy looks interesting. What on earth is steeking? What a nuisance that the hot weather is still being a pest. Feel free to keep it over that way for as long as you like Penny. I really don't want it to make an appearance here any time soon !!! lol. Take care. Liz...

Gorgeous hats, love the patterns......rather partial to a teacosy myself and that one looks pretty jolly nice.
Good idea to start early and give yourself plenty of time.

Hi Penny. Thanks for dropping in on me today. The collars were too big on his shirts so I had to take them off, shorten them by 2" and repleat the shirt to make then fit and had to shorten his trousers and put straps on the bottoms that go under his feet to hold the trousers down......nothing too complicated but so lovely to work on vintage style clothing. :-)
Hugs,
A x
ps love the hats. x
