It's Raining Mittens...

Well, it's raining, anyway.  It's been raining all day.  That wet stuff.  Rain.  So I was forced to give up my plans for a day of healthy walking in the glorious (but now wet) countryside and carry on with the mittening.  Yes, I think there is a new verb there - to mitten.  I have been mittening most of the day.  I have finished the second one of the Dragonfly Mitts...

...and started the second of this pair...

Cashmere mix mitten

It is a mix of cashmere, angora and wool and is my favourite so far.  Soft and warm with a luminescence of colour.  The yarn was originally destined to be socks but knitted up too thick.  I offered to give them (well it - actually - as I had only knitted one at the time) to my daughter for bedsocks, but I couldn't bring myself to knit the second one and I'm not sure how thrilled she would have been with a single bedsock.  Could be she would have started a trend...

Anyway, I pulled the sock back (dear readers, I can hear you scream) and now it is reincarnated as a mitten - soon to be a pair of mittens!  I have enough yarn to make a beret or other type of hat too, so will offer this option to my daughter, although she may well ask me to finish the top I was knitting her 4 years ago first.  (Very little chance of that!)

I wish I knew where this yarn had come from, as it is truly lovely - so soft and warm, and knits up beautifully. I am almost sure it was Emily from Posh Yarn... and they no longer do that particular quality.

Well, anyway - that is what I am working on tonight and, as I am a sad person with nothing else to occupy my time other than listening to talking books, I fully expect to finish this pair of mittens sometime tomorrow - maybe even later tonight!  I do have to allocate some time, however, to demolishing a portion of the vegetable casserole I put in the oven about an hour ago, so I may not be able to spend every minute of every hour clacking those needles!

Don't forget to allow time for a glass of wine, or two! I know you have a nice bottle or two of Saumur stashed away.
The mittens look great, you are going to be the best mittened person in the Haute Vienne this winter. xx

Lovely yarn - I am sure that if your daughter doesn't want the mittens somebody would be only too happy to give them a good home!

G'day Penny. They are both just beautiful. It's been a warm 27 degrees here today, though I think that is all about to change over the next day or so, as rain and hail have been predicted. Oh well, this is typical of our Spring weather here. Summer is just around the corner and the longer it stays away the better. I am so not a summer girl. Take care. Liz...

Hello Penny,

I have just made up the crochet bag you have available on your page and have done a posting about it. Thanks so much for the pattern.

Happy days.
