Not the best time of year for the seaside you're thinking - not in the northern hemisphere. But the sand and sea I'm referring to is a pattern from Coastal Knits for a shawlette.
I have made this pattern twice so far. In similar colours to the book picture...
and in blue...
Both of these were in my handspun yarn, except for the borders. If I spin 100g of fibre and ply it with something different I can just get a shawlette out of it, and then use another yarn for the edging.
It's a lovely pattern - doesn't take too much yarn or too much time and the finished article can be worn as a shawl or a scarf.

Lovely shawl Penny, I'm always feeling the cold around my shoulders lately, perhaps it's time I bit the bullet and knitted my first shawl. Love the look of Coastal Knits.
